On October 15, 2026, FuturHist, together with sister project HeriTACE, continued the webinar series: “Future-Proofing Historic Buildings for the Clean Energy Transition: Dialogues with FuturHist & HeriTACE.” with the second episode: “From Case by Case to Scalable Solutions: Window Renovation in Historic Buildings”. The session focused on transitioning from individual, bespoke interventions to scalable, sustainable, and replicable window retrofit strategies for historic structures. The webinar brought together researchers, engineering experts, and conservation specialists to share insights, decision-support tools, and technical developments across major European projects, including FuturHist, HeriTACE, and CALECHE.
Alexandra Troi (Eurac Research), who also moderated the session, examined sustainable alternatives to full window replacements, emphasizing how replicable retrofit solutions can balance heritage conservation with energy performance gains. Together with Stefan Möller (Holzmanufaktur Rottweil), they explored how research findings connect with specialized craftsmanship across four window typologies, presenting practical demonstration cases, performance evaluations, and glazing upgrade options.
In the third part, Nathan Van Den Bossche (Ghent University) and Paul Klõšeiko (Tallinn University of Technology) addressed methods and challenge areas for optimizing airtightness in historic windows within HeriTACE’s overall framework for future-proofing heritage townhouses.
Elodie Heberle (Cerema), from CALECHE, focused on criteria decision-support tools, renovation protocols for wooden windows, and field testing using in-situ airtightness measuring devices.
