On October 15, 2025, FuturHist, together with sister project HeriTACE, launched the inaugural episode of the webinar series: “Future-Proofing Historic Buildings for the Clean Energy Transition: Dialogues with FuturHist & HeriTACE.”
The first webinar explored the challenges and solutions for retrofitting historic buildings. A central theme was the typology-based approach presented by Elena Poma (EURAC Research). This method classifies historic buildings that share similar architectural, structural, and climatic characteristics to identify retrofit strategies that achieve energy efficiency while respecting heritage values.
Alessia Buda (Politecnico di Milano) presented the HeriTACE project’s archetype approach and explained how systematic heritage analysis and value assessment guide the development of tailored retrofit solutions.
The session concluded with Eline Himpe (Universiteit Gent) and Daniel Herrera (EURAC Research) presenting an overview of ongoing innovations in both projects and outlining how typology and archetype frameworks can support a more systematic energy transition.
